Friday, January 13: How to Navigate Your Giving

by Giver Boy on January 13, 2012

It’s good to be back! Giver Girl and I are excited to start up another year of giving. I truly appreciate all the love and support of those who joined with us last year…without you, and without the grace of God, 2011 would not have been as successful as it was. In fact, support came in a number of different forms last year–and this week’s gift goes to support one of our trustiest resources to date.

One major issue for me last year was finding a new and worthwhile cause every other week. Often, Giver Girl and I would brainstorm ideas and sometimes inspiration would hit me like lightning. Other times, it was much more difficult to choose.

Early last year, we decided to look around on the web for help with identifying worthwhile causes. Almost immediately, we came upon Charity Navigator. CharityNavigator.org “works to advance a more efficient and responsive philanthropic marketplace by evaluating the financial health, accountability and transparency of America’s largest charities.” Our prayers were answered! Tons of relevant information at our fingertips, giving us the ability to make intelligent decisions about our giving and to be exposed to organizations that we might not have heard of otherwise.

The work that Charity Navigator does is extremely worthwhile, but it takes financial support to keep it up and running. That is why this week’s 52 will be going their way. We encourage you to both support this worthwhile organization and make use of it as a resource when deciding where to direct your charitable dollars.

If you’re giving alongside us this week, we’d love to hear from you in the comments section below.
